Paranoia. It’s real. It’s everywhere. Maybe fear bordering, and often crossing, the threshold of sanity is something uniquely American. Or maybe there is some biological construct, some leftover genes from a pre-civilized time when the only logic that governed interaction was instinct that churns the organs in our gut, producing grand schemes of persecution in our trouble brains. Whatever is it, everywhere I go I meet people welling with frightened thoughts about friends, family, jobs, romance, and the future of the human race. The amount of energy needed to carry this amount of personal responsibility, guilt and urgency is magnificent. Growing global enlightenment, expanding conscious empathy, mounting social pressure . . . It’s enough to break a person.
Sometimes fear can manifest itself into a complex series of delusions. While it’s daunting to keep track of so many intricate connections, the goal is to frame reality inside a manageable solution with the center scape-goating stage lights pouring down on lonely you, you, you. Spinning wheels of wasted time.
Give me something to feel! Give me something to touch! Give me something to breathe! Islands of depression gathering together to form a more perfect union of isolation. God. Dear, dear God! Emptiness. Moving, progressing, silent and undefinable, only pot-shot philosophies from big-headed monkeys with pretty tools. You’re not alone, you’re just out of sync. And that’s what it is, that’s the answer. You & I are in two separate places on two different levels, casting blame on to ancient echoes. There’s no fault, only facts.
So let’s say, “I’m sorry.” Because I am sorry.
Life’s rough.
I wish you the best of luck.
There are elements out of our control attempting to sabotage progressing dreams. Let’s keep fighting, we’ll be alright.
Check out Born Ruffians for new music; solid structure combining elements of Beirut vocal-harmonies, earnest Dylan ghost, and just in time to ride the wave of educated, musical pretensions. Caribou should start being your new favorite band to chill with, and if you’re not in love with Battles by now stop reading.
